Thunar image preview and icon view

Having large directories with image files from cameras, often receiving new files and deleting old files...
The preview in Thunars icon view CTRL+1 is not reliable at all. Often I only see placeholders or refreshing takes very long, eventhough the directory is local on a very fast SSD.

Starting my favorite image viewer geeqie, it has no issues with the preview thumbnails, while it should use the same thumbnail files like Thunar. I have set geeqie to use standard $HOME/.cache/thumbnails and not $HOME/.thumbnails nor $HOME/.cache/geeqie/thumbnails.
I thought, doing it like this would save to have 2 separate thumbnail caches for Thunar and geeqie....

Finally I just can't work with the Thunar icon view for just moving pictures between directories... I always need to move (drag and drop) from the geeqie preview pane to a Thunar window side by side.
What's wrong with Thunar and thumbnails?
