OS: Manjaro XFCE
Hi,
Having a 16:9 28 inches monitor, I put the task bar: vertical and on the left.
Eventhough, the display properties are as always auto-hide, sometimes the taskbar stays visible.
Question, when this happens is there a way to force auto-hide?
I tried "xfce4-panel -r", if it dissappeared, it never re-appeared ! Finally I shut down
Thanks

Are you running in X or wayland?
Have a look at this bug report to see if its related.

Question, when this happens under X11 is there a way to force auto-hide (and preserve the normal use)?
Thanks

You could try something like:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/autohide-behavior -s 0 && xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/autohide-behavior -s 2
But there may be a bug there. Was the bug report I linked above relevant/similar?

But there may be a bug there.
Definitely there's a bug for me, and an annoying one, but so far I haven't been able to identify a constant way to reproduce it, until then no point to report a bug that can't be reproduced.
Was the bug report I linked above relevant/similar?
Looks at such, but he describes that "After a while (minutes or hours) the panel stops hiding completely."
I do not recon in my observations, that elapsed time would be the root cause, if indeed it's for him under Wayland.
Furthermore, "Running xfce4-panel -r returns normal (quick and immediate) autohide, but the problem returns in not too long."
as I said in 1st post, in my case:
I tried "xfce4-panel -r", if it dissappeared, it never re-appeared ! Finally I shut down
This is the very reason why I asked in a way how to "refresh" the expected behaviour.

You could try something like:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/autohide-behavior -s 0 && xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/autohide-behavior -s 2
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/autohide-behavior -s 0 && xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/autohide-behavior -s 2
Property "/panels/panel-1/autohide-behavior" does not exist on channel "xfce4-panel". If a new property should be created, use the --create option.

What does the following return?
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv

You have no panel-1. Try using panel-0:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-0/autohide-behavior -s 0 && xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-0/autohide-behavior -s 2
Sorry, I should have been clearer in my previous response.
