I've had real problems with the Clipboard manager in XFCE.

I encountered a problem with LibreOffice where I could not copy and paste large chunks of data from within a LibreOffice Calc spreadsheet.
Curiously, I COULD copy and paste those same large blocks of information from the Gnumeric spreadsheet into a LibreOffice Calc spreadshee
That was a cumbersome workaround, but it was all I could do for large blocks of data.

Large here means ~2000 rows, 4 columns of date/time and price data (High, Low, Close).

Grok AI helped me find a better workaround, which was to append the phrase:

XFSETTINGSD_NO_CLIPBOARD=1

to the environment file at:

   /etc/environment

If anyone else encounters this issue, that's the fix.

It's versoion 4.20.1-2

This is Endeavour OS, an Arch distribution, so it stays current.

Re: I've had real problems with the Clipboard manager in XFCE.

Ok, there are a few more fixes on branch 4.20 that haven't been released in stable yet, but they have been released on master in development version in libxfce4ui 4.21.1. So you should be able to test this easily from AUR if you wish (libxfce4ui-dev).

I tried quickly to reproduce the problem but I can't (I use libxfce4ui-git). I won't have time to look at this in the near future anyway.

Re: I've had real problems with the Clipboard manager in XFCE.

I'm not sure the clip manager has any real utility in my workflow, so I might just leave what I have sit as is.  I just thought I'd share what was happening.  Seems like the memory setting on some buffer is set too low.

Added later 20 min 01 s:
Just thought I would add, the problem surfaced in early April, I just got around to trying to troubleshoot it recently.  I think I remember there were some changes to the clipman manager around that time in the changelogs, I thought they twiddled something to fix some issue and that's when this happened, but don't remember the details.

Re: I've had real problems with the Clipboard manager in XFCE.

This may be fixed in 4.21.1 (the additional fixes concern memory allocation): I can copy-paste a large block of data only once in LibreOffice Calc with 4.20.1, and this bug disappears with 4.21.1. So it seems to have an effect there. If you ever want to test it, remember to restart xfsettingsd after changing libxfce4ui version.
