[SOLVED] png/jpg backgrounds aren't working correctly

Good evening,

I'm a relatively new user to xfce, and am currently using 4.20 on arch. I haven't run into any problems until i decided to change my wallpaper.

I had a webp image whose format I changed to .png under the assumption that it would work, as i saw other png images in the /xfce folder. This, however, did not turn out to be the case. They appear in the xfdesktop wallpaper tab as completely blank (see image below), and when applied they only appear as a black void.

image.png

My attempted fix was to use a different file format, however only .svg seemed to work, and that made the image appear quite low quality which isn't desirable.

Has anybody else had an issue similar to this, and if so, could you please provide a solution? thank you!

Hello and welcome.

Make sure you have the webp-pixbuf-loader package installed. xfdesktop will then natively support webp files.

Good evening,

I'm glad to say that after doing this and restarting xfce, my problem was solved.

Thank you for the help :-)
