Issue found in Thunar 4.18.8 and Thunar 4.20
Need: Thunar Root must have list view and sort order by modified date descending, by-default.
I run thunar root from XFCE Terminal using sudo thunar.
I need to use root thunar to access files in other partitions.
I wish to have Thunar root to show icons in List View
Edit Menu ==> Preferences ==>View Settings ==> View new folders using: List View ==> Save
Even though, I save, next time I open Thunar, Icons shows up in Icon View. I have to press Ctrl + 2 in each folder
The checkbox next to "Remember view settings for each folder" is disabled, I cannot check it.
Looking for help.

The problem is that the settings are stored in xfconf and xfconf won't run under sudo (which by the way you shouldn't use anyways to run GUI apps). Depending on the version of Xfce and thunar you have, you might be able to use built-in gvfs admin functions. Basically, in the thunar location selector, type in:
admin:///path/to/mount
...and you should get admin access via your regular thunar window.

pkexec thunar
I've used this as a custom action since Debian 9. Depends on a working polkit setup.
