[SOLVED] Two redshift icons in the taskbar

Hello,

Two Redshift icons appear in the taskbar. I've tried reinstalling Redshift and restarting the panel with `xfce4-panel --restart`, but the two icons reappear after restarting. The only way I can hide them is through the system tray settings. Is there a solution?

I restored the panel again, and after three restarts, only one icon appears. Strange...

Perhaps you had two redshift-gtk processes running?

Only one redshift-gtk process appears, but the double icon reappears repeatedly when I restart.

Can you post back the outputs of:

ps -ef | grep -i redshift

...and:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv

Which distro and version of Xfce are you running?

Usually this is the result of either two redshift-gtk instances running, or two different types of systray plugins (the other ones being the indicator plugin or statusnotifier). However, neither seem to be the case for you.

Do you happen to have any ayatana-indicator packages installed and running?

I have the following packages installed:
gir1.2-ayatanaappindicator3-0.1
libayatana-appindicator3-1
libayatana-indicator3-7
libayatana-ido3-0.4-0
But none of the ayatana-indicator-*** packages are installed.

Try uninstalling libayatana-indicator and libayatana-appindicator to see if that helps. I've come across a few instances where one of those interferes.

- lightdm, lightdm-greeter, etc., depend on libayatana-appindicator3-7 and cannot be uninstalled.

- libayatana-appindicator3-1 requires the uninstallation of network-manager-applet, redshift-gtk, and gir1.2-ayatanaappindicator3-0.1.

I have reinstalled these packages, but the result is the same. I don't think there's a solution; sometimes one icon appears, and sometimes two.

Here's the solution. After reinstalling the status tray plugin, redshift should only appear in the StatusNotifier plugin and not in both (StatusNotifier and the Indicator plugin).
