Wifi dongle adapter - driver

Hi,
My wifi dongle adaptor on my Dell Optiplex 9020  packed up, so fitted a new one.
This is a dual boot PC, and the new wifi dongle works fine with Mint LMDE, but not my MX Linux when booted.
So my MX Linux is missing a driver for this new dongle.
Any ideas how I can sort this?
I don't have an ethernet connection sadly.

Can't find a way to attach info pics from the PC?

Thanks

Re: Wifi dongle adapter - driver

We're going to need more info than that. We need to know what the dongle is? What chip it uses etc? If not installed, install inxi and run in a terminal

inxi -N

and post the results here. I realize wifi isn't working but you said it is in Mint so run it there if need be.

Re: Wifi dongle adapter - driver

Your lshw only shows the wired connection. The inxi output doesn't give a name for the device, did you edit it before posting? It does show the rtw_8822bu driver so I assume a Realtek device. The driver is loaded but there is no firmware. May not need it. I would ask on the MX forum. They build they're own packages and kernel I believe and may be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: Wifi dongle adapter - driver

I'm assuming this output came from the MX installation? Is it the same for the Mint installation. It loos like the the usb dongle is seen and the driver loaded. I don't know what MX uses to manage connections but have you tried to set up a connection? Again, this is a question for the MX forum as it has nothing to do with Xfce.

Re: Wifi dongle adapter - driver

[That's from the LMDE boot.

I think the lack of a driver for this usb wifi dongle has bricked my MX installation,
so have decided to remove the distro from this PC.

I still have MX Linux xfce dual boot on my laptop, and will continue to enjoy it there.

Thanks for your input guys !
