Every time I spend some time arranging my desktop icons in a convenient way I end up frustrated that they return to some 'default' arrangement upon booting/rebooting.
I have been living with this for some years across several multiboot machines. All (LINUX) distros exhibit the same behaviour.
I have never tried hard to solve it. Now I am inclined to do it and have gone through listings for searching keys "desktop icons arrangement" and "desktop icons position" from 2008 to 2025 and could not find any significant answer.
I hope that is due to faulty searching strategy on my side.
Can anyone throw a light on this?

The explanation here is very general. So an ongoing multi distro multi desktop issue, or a recent Xfce change - I'm not sure.
Does this thread look familiar?
