Multimedia controls on the lock screen?

I have Debian 13 with Xfce installed.
By default, does xflock4 run light-locker?
Is light-locker part of xfce?
Is it possible to configure light-locker or xfce4-screensaver to manage sound?
When I enable screen lock, whether it's light-locker or xfce4-screensaver, music from YouTube, for example, continues to play in the background.
Everything works fine, except that the function keys for turning the volume up, down or off do not work on the lock screen.
Can this be changed somehow?

Re: Multimedia controls on the lock screen?

Hello and welcome.

By default, does xflock4 run light-locker?

Not really and depends on the version of xfce4-session you are running (you could post the contents of that file if you'd like confirmation). In current master it will first look for what might be custom configured in the /General/LockCommand key in the xfce4-session xfconf channel, and then look for whatever screensaver is registered with the system.

Is light-locker part of xfce?

No.

Everything works fine, except that the function keys for turning the volume up, down or off do not work on the lock screen.

There is an exiting feature request for xfce4-screensaver for this functionality: https://gitlab.xfce.org/apps/xfce4-scre … issues/135. Light-locker appears to have one as well: https://github.com/the-cavalry/light-locker/issues/65.

Edit: Had a closer look at the locking mechanism. It has changed and xflock4 is being phased out (just a wrapper now for backwards compatibility). The order appears to be as follows:

  1. /General/LockCommand custom command

  2. dbus-registered screensavers (like xfce4-screensaver)

  3. xdg-screensaver

  4. xscreensaver

  5. light-locker

Re: Multimedia controls on the lock screen?

AI suggested that xfconf-query -c xfce4-session -l | grep LockCommand returns /general/LockCommand.
I don't know if that's what you meant because I'm not familiar with xfce or any other graphical environment, plus English is not my default language, but maybe we can communicate smile.

Can you recommend a screensaver or screen lock system that supports multimedia until xfce4-screensaver or light-locker adds this option?

AI recommends i3lock, but I don't really believe it because AI keeps saying that amixer plus keyboard settings will work, and I think it's still trying to convince me in three answers smile.

You can run the following command to specify which custom screen locker program you want to use:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-session -p /general/LockCommand -t string -s "LOCKER" -n

...where LOCKER is the executable of the screen locker program you want to use.

Can you recommend a screensaver or screen lock system that supports multimedia until xfce4-screensaver or light-locker adds this option?

Sorry, but I'm unaware of any.

Re: Multimedia controls on the lock screen?

I'll have to go back to Windows because I think they have these features built in since version 10. lol
