Re: xfce4-panel - Clock - NTP support is not installed

I believe that tool is time-admin, which is an older gnome tool and not part of Xfce. It's probably generating that message. This is a very old package that is barely being maintained anymore (https://github.com/LStranger/gnome-system-tools).

ntp should work though. Is it enabled and running? I believe "ntpq -p" was the command to check its status.

What version of xfce4-panel is that?

Xfce doesn't "use" it at all. Xfce allows for the option to run a tool for setting time, but does not dictate which one. Your distro probably added that one.

Here is a Debian bug report that seems to indicate that ntpsec is not supported. Looks like Mint has patched it to work with their distro.

Apart time-admin, they don't suggest anything, see the doc :
https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/ … n_settings

The problem is finding a replacement for time-admin.

I don't know, I'm not an Xfce dev.

As for alternatives, if we can't find them, I guess a majority of people don't need them, they set the date, time and time zone of their system during the install/configuration of the distribution and don't touch it anymore.

Yup, that's it. I set the the time and date during the initial set and rarely need to touch it again.
