Cannot login when browser has no preferred language setting.

In the past, I had Firefox's preferred language for displaying pages set to English US, since I generally prefer reading web pages in English.
But it was a bit cumbersome to navigate to German sites and change the language to German, which makes (especially governmental related) things easier to understand (if that's even possible ;-).

I figured out that keeping the list of Firefox's preferred language for displaying pages setting empty, does exactly achieve this.

However, with this change, I cannot login to this lovely forum -- I get the error message "Your browser didn't transfer service data."
This is a pity, especially, as I set the preferred language in my profile here in the forum to English.

Is there anything that you forum administrators can change?
Or is there another solution for my issue?

Re: Cannot login when browser has no preferred language setting.

My default in Firefox is my system default en_US. However, I use a translation when visiting non English sites. It show up in the address bar and asks if I want to translate to English. I'm not sure if it's something I've add or part of Firefox itself. I'll have to look into it.

Edit:
It looks like it just comes with Firefox by default.  https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/we … ranslation

Re: Cannot login when browser has no preferred language setting.

My default in Firefox is also en_US and I am happy with this.

The issue with German web sites arises whenever they provide German and English content:  Having set my preferred language to en_US, these pages provide their English version.

The English versions, however, are either incomplete, outdated, or not easy to understand (as opposed to their German originals).  So I always need to search for the language setting on a web site's top or bottom and switch to German.

Re: Cannot login when browser has no preferred language setting.

I'm not seeing that at all. Translations may not be perfect but I can understand what's going on without issue. I did not set my language in Firefox and I have no language packs installed. As I said, it's just the system default. My primary use is also German from the Siduction forum. Post are usually German or English, sometimes both. The home page appears in English to me but there is a button to switch to German. Click the button and I'm asked to translate to English. https://siduction.org/

I would try removing language packs and testing. Which version of Fiirefox do you use?

From Firefox:

How do I enable the translation panel?

You can enable translation prompts in Firefox from the AI Controls panel in Firefox Settings.

Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
Select AI Controls on the left.
Under On-device AI next to Translations, choose Available from the drop-down menu.

Also, It looks like without the language packs translations are downloaded. If you have the language packs installed the it will be done locally.

Why do I need to install languages?

Installing languages enables Firefox to perform translations locally within your browser, prioritizing your privacy and security. As you translate, Firefox downloads partial language files as you need them. To pre-install complete languages yourself, access the language settings in Firefox Settings, General panel, in the Language and Appearance section under Translations.
