i use the equilux theme on XFCE.
one thing that gets me about it is that some apps don't recognise it as "dark", so if they have a "follow system settings" option, their theming will remain light. for a long time i thought it was a bug in firefox or LibreOffice, but the other day I changed to another dark theme for something and they both adopted their own dark theming.
i just tested with some other dark themes and firefox and libreoffice both respect them as dark: Adwaita Dark, Arc Dark, Gruvbox Dark B...
is it possible to tell XFCE/Appearance that it should recognise a particular theme as dark?
thanks for any pointers.

The equilux theme was archived in 2023 and is no longer being developed. It might be time to start thinking about using another theme as it is no longer being maintained.
That being said, you could try putting:
[Settings]
gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme = true...into ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini to see if it helps.
