System Tray Not Updating

I've been noticing for a while that after login and the panel starts the system tray is missing the Blueman icon. If I restart the panel the icon shows up. Just now I realized it goes deeper. I just started MKchromecast and the icon is not there. Again, restart the panel and the icon appears. I figure the system tray is not refreshing automagically for some reason. Is anybody else seeing this behavior? Thought I'd check if there is a setting I'm missing before I consider a bug report.

Re: System Tray Not Updating

Do you have ayatana-indicator-application installed? If so, does it make a difference if you remove it?

Also, it would be interesting to see debug log. Create the file /usr/local/bin/xfce4-panel with this content:

#!/bin/sh

PANEL_DEBUG=1 /usr/bin/xfce4-panel > $HOME/xfce4-panel.log

...make it executable and re-login in.

If it doesn't show up again, review/post back the log file to see if there is something specific there about it.

Re: System Tray Not Updating

I've just removed ayatana-indicator-application and ayatana-indicator-common and restarted. At first It didn't work so I tried the log and restarted again. It seems to be working as it should and the log is empty, which should be a good thing.

I vaguely remember installing the ayatana stuff for a reason sometime ago but don't remember why but I don't see any adverse effects, yet.

Thanks ToZ
