I am stupid on this issue so please have mercy. I am the tech manager for a small library and I can't seem to set static ips on xubuntu 24.04. The issue is we are required to use 2 set DHCP servers for filtering content for minors (using family shield) yet I want to set specific static ips for the individual computers. All the googling seems to require changing the DHCP as a first step.

Hi Cmcanulty,
I don't understand the question:
- It seems to me that you need to use some DHCP servers for your filtering software to work.
- You want to have static IP addresses for a computer.
The suggestions are probably to set the MAC address in the DHCP to always get the same IP (static)
OR you can ignore the DHCP, determine which program is managing the network on your computer and configure to ignore DHCP and set the current values in their config files.

edit: re-reading my answer I want to clarify: To be clear I don't want to discurage further questions or such. The clearer you are with
1) what you are trying to achieve.
2) what you tried
3) what you have access to (can you change the DHCP settings or is this another adminteam?)
4) what is your question.
Perhaps posting this and your google searches may be of help.

"we are required to use 2 set DHCP..."
If you have a requirement, why are you asking a question to ignore it? Requirements are designed for administrators and users to "follow" for specific reason.

I was never trying to not follow the DHCP but to set static ips under the set DHCP. I used the wrong term the DNS is set and the DHCP can be manual sorry for the confusion. I figured it out. The problem I was setting the Gateway as the router ip when it needed to be 192.168.1.1 as our router ip is 207.***.***.***
