Hello and Saluton! 💽

I'm Sly. from Germany, artist with a lot of hobbies and xfce enjoyer.
xfce has been the second desktop environment I used right after a very short entry level experience in Gnome via Ubuntu.

My main distribution is Xubuntu (at the time of writing I'm on 24.04.4 LTS, so xfce4.18).

I'm honestly very fond of this DE as a whole and in all these years since around 2014/15 I used it with pleasure and still cherish its KISS-approaches, snappy responsiveness, mostly easily accessible customisation options and clean structure. Not to mention: Low requirements!
Since I use it, there were literally only two instances I can think of I was "complaining" about (or more like raised an eyebrow at, strictly seen), none of the two great enough to get in the way of anything – at least up until now, which is why I made this account to request some assistance.
But that's for another thread and for a later time. wink

So, part of the reason I signed up here I have teased already.
However, the other part of the reason is that I'm interested in making custom themes, eventually. At least as far as time and life permits.
Hoping to find all necessary info on that over time and answers to questions I cannot find answers for!
I have already done shallow searches, diving into how theme folders look like inside (and lazily copied 20.04's Greybird Dark over because I preferred its palette to 24.04's) and surface level gtk.css meddling, although the GTK+Inspector is honestly giving me a headache at times.
Part of the motivation to mess with themes is to supply friends with themes catered to their liking to bribe them to use xfce make their use of xfce more appealing and cosy to them, but another is to share any themes I made online on sites like xfce-look, of course, since "make theme for XYZ (and release it)" is part of my computer-bucket-list. big_smile
…And I did not find a very specific theme style yet which I am personally interested at. So some egoism is at play too. smile

PS: I disagree heavily with that weird stereotype claiming "xfce looks ugly, boring or dated" one can occasionally run into in different online spaces. I have seen more than enough setups that proved this very wrong. tongue

That being said, to any xfce contributors and testers reading this:
Thanks for your work, it pays off!

Hoping to have a good time discussing this DE with others in the near future!
