Xfce panel frozen and xfwm4 lags during high-I/O script runs

Hi everyone,
I am currently running a highly customized Xubuntu installation on my workstation and using Xfce as my primary desktop environment. I absolute love how lightweight and fast it is, but I have run into a persistent desktop performance issue when executing heavy background script loops.

The main problem happens when a local script automation engine starts outputting rapid, continuous terminal events and dynamic execution telemetry. Under this load, my main panel applets freeze up completely, xfce4-timer-plugin stops updating, and the xfwm4 compositor starts dropping frames, which makes moving windows feel incredibly laggy. This sets off a frustrating chain of secondary bugs: the panel volume plugin stops responding to my scroll wheel, task manager shortcuts hang, and occasionally, the panel completely crashes and requires me to manually restart it in a terminal using xfce4-panel -r. I am trying to figure out if the Xfce panel's message bus is getting overloaded by the sheer number of background thread updates, or if my window manager settings are failing to prioritize system UI rendering over active background terminal outputs.

I have been testing a pre-configured environmental tuning script that I found as a free download to see if lowering the scheduling priority of the script terminal process or explicitly disabling client-side window decorations resolves the rendering lag. Unfortunately, even when isolating the execution windows and pinning the process to a single CPU core, the panel panel applets still lock up during long automation runs. I am trying to determine if it is better practice to completely disable the xfwm4 compositor and switch to an external manager like Compton, or if there is a specific configuration file in my ~/.config/xfce4 directory that I should edit to allocate more memory to the desktop panel process itself.

If anyone else here has managed rapid development scripts or run heavy automated runtime wrappers without causing panel locks or compositor stuttering under Xfce, how do you optimize your workspace performance? I would be incredibly grateful for any panel-tuning advice or thread-priority configurations to help get this desktop running smoothly again.

I'm just wildly guessing, but here is my 2 cents:

The problem is usually in panel notifications / tray icons.

Two panel plugins are available to display tray icons:
- "XApp Status Plugin" (the new one) and
- "Status Tray Plugin" (the old one, for the exact same purpose of displaying tray icons)

Both of them are buggy. Try disabling both.
Or, if you are lucky, perhaps one of them works, but the other one doesn't.

Try disabling GPU acceleration and compositing (disable: Window Manager Tweaks / Compositor / "Enable display compositing")

Also, try some alternative compositor. Many of them are easy to set up:
- picom
- compton
- compiz
