I decided to play around with i3, downloaded a premade config, found out that it changes the key binds, uninstalled it, and went back to good old XFCE. Looks like you have another notification manager installed and running. Is it possibly dunst? If so, uninstall it.
If not, post back:
ps -ef | grep -i notifMark solved threads as [SOLVED] to make it easier for others to find solutions.
