Hi,
on xubuntu 24.04 i use this
notify-send -A files="open dir" -i icon -t 0 "title" "text"to show a notification and then open the dir in thunar. This notification works but i miss the button. When i run the command in terminal this is the result:
Actions are not supported by this notifications server. Displaying non-interactively.
But actions should be suppoted:
gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetCapabilities
(['action-icons', 'actions', 'body', 'body-hyperlinks', 'body-markup', 'icon-static', 'x-canonical-private-icon-only'],)friedrich

That is odd, as they are supported. What version of libnotify and xfce4-notifyd are you running?
That being said, notify-send itself doesn't run any actions, you need to capture the output ID and then process that somehow. Something like this:
#!/bin/bash
ID=$(notify-send -i icon -t 0 "title" "text" -A files="Open File Manager" -A terminal="Open Terminal")
case $ID in
files) exo-open --launch FileManager ;;
terminal) exo-open --launch TerminalEmulator ;;

It's libnotify 0.8.8.-1 and xfce4-notify 0.9.7.
Is have a script that checks if there are files on a network drive and sends a notification. I use the button in the notification to open the mountpoint of the network share.

In your script, use something like the following instead of your current notification call:
ID=$(notify-send -i xfce-mount -t 0 "Share Available" "Open the file manager to view the share?" -A yes="Yes" -A cancel="Cancel")
case $ID in
yes) exo-open --launch FileManager MOUNTPOINT;;
no) ;;
esac...change MOUNTPOINT to your actual mount point.

The script is not the problem. The scripts works but i miss the button in the notification.
When i run your script i have the same error:
Actions are not supported by this notifications server. Displaying non-interactively.
and a notification without button.

What does the following return:
gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetServerInformationPerhaps you are running another notification daemon?
The script and buttons work for me on a Xubuntu 24.04 VM.

gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetServerInformation
('Xfce Notify Daemon', 'Xfce', '0.9.7', '1.2')The script works on Xubuntu 24.04 but not on Xubuntu 26.04.

The script works on Xubuntu 24.04 but not on Xubuntu 26.04.
Does this mean that everything is okay with your script (and the notification buttons) on 24.04?
And what do you mean that it doesn't work on 26.04? Is there an error?

That is true. Works on Xubuntu 24.04.
The error i see when running
notify-send -A files="open dir" -i icon -t 0 "title" "text"on xubuntu 26.04 is
Actions are not supported by this notifications server. Displaying non-interactively.
But action should be supported:
gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetCapabilities
(['action-icons', 'actions', 'body', 'body-hyperlinks', 'body-markup', 'icon-static', 'x-canonical-private-icon-only'],)Offline

It seems to work fine for me on 26.04.
Did you run the following command on Xubuntu 26.04?
gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetServerInformationDoes it return Xfce Notify Daemon?
Could you also post back the output of:
journalctl --user -b 0 --no-pager | grep -i notifMark solved threads as [SOLVED] to make it easier for others to find solutions.

I tested the command in xubuntu 26.04 running in virtualbox and have the same problem.

Yes, that is the command i run. Do you mean the version of the Daemon? When running the command i see this:
('Xfce Notify Daemon', 'Xfce', '0.9.7', '1.2')Could you also post back the output of:

Hmmm. I wonder if there is some sort of race condition happening here? Something like xfce4-notifyd is in an idle state and the notify-send command doesn't wait for it to wake up. Try waking the notifyd daemon first, using the GetCapabilities command before the actual notify-send command in your script to see if that helps:
gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetCapabilities > /dev/null
notify-send -A files="open dir" -i icon -t 0 "title" "text"Mark solved threads as [SOLVED] to make it easier for others to find solutions.

Same problem:
gdbus call --session --dest org.freedesktop.Notifications --object-path /org/freedesktop/Notifications --method org.freedesktop.Notifications.GetCapabilities > /dev/null
notify-send -A files="open dir" -i icon -t 0 "title" "text"Actions are not supported by this notifications server. Displaying non-interactively.
