Big Brother machine-id (avoid?)

When I couldn't <CTRL><ALT><BKSP> to kill X, someone suggested xfce4-session-logout, but it said the following.

** (xfce4-session-logout:1657): WARNING **: 18:33:05.357: Received error while trying to log out (Cannot spawn a message bus without a machine-id: Invalid machine ID in /var/lib/dbus/machine-id or /etc/machine-id)

Having a machine-id (I don't) is Big Brother monitoring and unacceptable.  Let users opt out, and is it required for anything else?

Re: Big Brother machine-id (avoid?)

The machine-id is an arbitrary number and there is no matching master list for big brother to consult.
There is no concern.
You can generate a new one anytime you want.
dbus-uuidgen --ensure=/etc/machine-id

libvirt is another thing that will use it.
