Kate (KDE) cpu hogging bug as seen in Trisquel

This is an issue with Kate text editor, a KDE program, so I'm lodging this in the General Discussion as it has little-to-no relevance to xfce, but it is currently to only way to get the info out (see below). I am in the process of building a setup that melds the best of KDE and Xfce. Although I use Mousepad for many things, I also like to use Kate when using KDE.

I experienced recently (once) that Kate progressively consumed the CPU(?) increasingly over weeks, either as time progressed or as more files and/or operations were performed. Over time it crippled the frame rate of the entire system, bar mouse pointer movement, when and only when the user with the offending Kate process is running and active, ie "Switch(ing) User" and logging in as someone else and POOF, evidence of problem disappeared until 'Switch User' back. Twas in Kate (ver 23.08.5 as is part of the latest Trisquel 12.0 repo).

What may be of some interest to a tester/dev is how I came to determine it was Kate without closing it.

For the longest time I thought it was program, but no it was Kate! I discovered this when I started typing a longer word, Kate came up with an autocomplete menu for that word, the CPU hogging suddenly stopped, I could see this only becase another window IN THE BACKGROUND suddenly got a  SILKY SMOOTH refresh rate. If I wasn't running that I'd have not understood what was going on.

So I'm just going to lodge this here:
- the poor Trisquel forums don't work 4 me,
- he KDE discourse will break my system with its js
- the bug-reporting system of KDE never sent the confirmation email for signup
- a develop.kde.org link suggested to go to a fedora website but fedora use immoral sc'amazon servers,
Maybe a search engine will help someone find this in their hour of need. smile

If anyone DOES want me to test something, do respond of course. I'm not at the KDE PC rn but will note testing requests.

No LLM was used in the production of this post

Privacy is a human right... I use Tor Browser in Safest Mode to block js, and dragged NoScript addon back into the toolbar to enable js on worthy sites. I add uBlock so it matches Tails' fingerprint.
