**Title:** Power Button Immediately Turns Off Laptop Despite Xfce Power Manager Being Set to “Ask”
Hello,
I’m using Linux Mint 20.3 Xfce on an older ASUS K42Jc laptop.
**Problem:**
When I briefly press the physical power button, the laptop immediately turns off, as if the power cable had been pulled. The Xfce “Ask” dialog does not appear, and there is no apparent graceful shutdown process.
I have tried setting the power button action to both **Shutdown** and **Ask** in Xfce Power Manager, but the behavior remains the same.
**What I have checked:**
- `xfce4-power-manager` holds the `handle-power-key` inhibitor, according to `systemd-inhibit --list`.
- `acpid` is active.
- `/etc/acpi/events/` contains no obvious power-button event rule.
- Searching `/etc/acpi/` for `button/power`, `powerbtn`, `poweroff`, and `shutdown` returned no matches.
- In `/etc/systemd/logind.conf`, `HandlePowerKey=poweroff` and `PowerKeyIgnoreInhibited=no` are commented out.
**My question:**
Why does briefly pressing the physical power button turn the laptop off immediately instead of allowing Xfce Power Manager to display the “Ask” dialog?
Could another component be handling the power-button event before Xfce receives it? What would be the best way to diagnose this?
Thank you for your help.
