Missing icons on menu for Apps

Configured/compiled/installed 4.4b

All is working, except the menu icons for apps that were already on the system, and in the 'Settings Manager'

Thinking it needed the icons in its "standard" location, I copied my icons from the REAL standard location, and tried again.
Still no icons.

Is there a command to make Xfce recognize the 'new' icons?

Yeah it's odd. I had the same problem but after a while, they appeared without doing any changes.

does "update-desktop-database" work ???
