For some reason, Xfce has decided NOT to remember (or acknowledge) my preferences for desktop wallpaper, default file manager, etc. Everytime I try to change any of these preferences, the WM doesn't do anything. I've only been using Xfce since last night, so any suggestions about what I can do to remedy these problems are appreciated.

I tried that but I discovered that Xfce had already been set to automatically save each session. In addition, I forgot to mention that it doesn't acknowledge right- or middle-clicks on my desktop, either.

It doesn't appear to be running; when looking through the Xfce task manager, Xfdesktop doesn't show up. Any way I can make it show up?

I tried what you suggested and it seemed to work fine while in the main Ubuntu window manager. But when I logged out of that session and into Xfce, I tried running xfdesktop (as you suggested) and nothing happened.
