upgrade - lost hibernation, sudo'd shutdown

I upgraded to the latest Xfrce RC1 on Ubuntu 6.06.

When I quit, I no longer has suspend and hibernate options, and I need to enter my password to shutdown.

Advice on how to fix this?

Xfce4-session in 4.4rc1 has support for HAL to shutdown:

README wrote:

allowed to shutdown/reboot the computer using HAL, you don't need to setup

I used the graphical installer. So how do I configure that option with the installer? Otherwise, which individual components of Xfce should I download and build manually?

Well, due to other problems I re-installed the default Xfce from within Ubuntu.

I have since upgraded Ubuntu to Edge Eft 6.10. I've gotten fed up with various other problems with Xfce on Ubuntu (such as mangled menu titles), so I've upgraded to Xfce 4.4 RC2. Everything seems to work well, except that I've lost the hibernate/suspend options in Quit, again. I can close my laptop and it will hibernate, though.

I've (re)tried rebuilding xfce4-session, and it's not fixed the problem. But I'm confused about your response: should I build it with or without dbus support? If I build it without dbus, what of the Trash?

I upgraded to Xfce 4.4. The graphical installer recommended various -dev packages for hal and dbus support. I thought "Ah, this will fix the problems I am having with hibernation."

Alas no. I still do not get the hibernate/suspend options when shutting down.

Well if xfce4-session is compiled with hal support, you probably don't have right to suspend/hibernate. Maybe you need to add yourself to the hal or power group.

I don't think it's a permissions issue, since I <i>used</i> to have suspend/hibernate options before upgrading. I have those options when using Gnome.

Also, there are no hal or power groups on my system (or anything resembling them).
