Problem With Compiling xfce 3.9 on FreeBSD

Hi I am having a problem with compiling xfce on FreeBSD.

When compiling in the order given by the site e.g.

  • xfce4-dev-tools

  • libxfce4util

  • libxfcegui4

  • libxfce4mcs

  • xfce-mcs-manager

  • all other modules (you have to install xfce4 panel before compiling panel plugins).

I get as far as libxfce4mcs which compiles and installs fine, but when I go to compile xfce-mcs-manager the "./configure" finishes fine but the "make" errors out with the message:

make: don't know how to make xfce-settings-manager.desktop. Stop.
*** Error code 1

Has any one else come across this error? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thank you for your help.

Re: Problem With Compiling xfce 3.9 on FreeBSD

Does compiling with --enable-maintainer-mode solve the problem?

Re: Problem With Compiling xfce 3.9 on FreeBSD

No it didn't hmm

I'm guessing I was supposed to go:
# ./configure --enable-maintainer-mode
# make

Is that right? I'm a little new to this whole compiling the source from tar balls jive smile

Thanks for the reply though smile

Re: Problem With Compiling xfce 3.9 on FreeBSD

./configure --prefix=<somepath> --enable-maintainer-mode
make && make install

Re: Problem With Compiling xfce 3.9 on FreeBSD

hmmmm...

What path should the prefix be set too? I haven't used that for compiling any of the previous modules.

I have had to set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable to equal "/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig" though.

Also should I recompile all of the previous modules with the "--enable-maintainer-mode" option set?

Thanks for your help on this Nick smile

Re: Problem With Compiling xfce 3.9 on FreeBSD

Has any one else got any ideas on this problem?

I've tried everything Nick suggested but it hasn't helped hmm

Is there something that I should install? Since the compiler is having trouble with creating the xfce-settings-manager.desktop file, which I'm guessing is the file that is used to display the Setting Manager in xfce's main menu. So is it maybe that some directory structure isn't there that it needs of something?

I've had a pretty good search on the net for this problem but nothing comes up. It says on the xfce site that it should compile on FreeBSD, which it almost does apart from this one little thing smile

Re: Problem With Compiling xfce 3.9 on FreeBSD

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

You have to compile the xfce-mcs-manager package with "gmake" not just "make".

So simple but could I find that answer any where? NOPE! But thanks to Ori_B on the xfce forum I gots the answer.

Cheers again Ori_B big_smile
