Quit menu choice does not generate dialog box and can't exit

This is a strange error, or so it seems to me.

I've just gotten 4.4RC1 completely built and running find. But when I try to exit using the Quit choice on the desktop menu nothing happens. And I do mean nothing. First there is no dialog prompting me, even though I have Prompt on logout checked in Sessions and Startup. Second, and worse, it never quits. As I said everything else is working, so this seems like a strange problem to me. If I want to get back to a command prompt I have to use Ctrl, Alt, Backspace, which means my sessions aren't saving.

Is there a particular package I should rebuild, or is there a way to generate a log that might tell me where it's failing?

Are you using a display manager?

If not you might need to customise your quit command.

i'm guessing you have xfce4-session installed?

try running the cmd - xfce4-session-logout
if it works, make a custom Quit entry for it in your menu.

Yes, I've got it installed and ps says it's running. So is dbus-lauch if that means anything.
When I run xfce4-session-logout the exact same thing happens, ie nothing.

Any othe thoughts?

Yes, I did. It doesn't apply to me since I don't want to automatically log in to xfce. I want to log in and start X from a command prompt.

True, but further on it explains why you are not able to log out. If there is no DM things work differently.

I have the same set up as you, no DM, no autologin but my menu includes logout, restart and shutdown and they work.

I'll look at it further but my machine at work is setup the same way to and I don't have to do anything special to exit. I choose Quit from the menu and the confirmation dialog pops up. I choose log out and Xfce and X quit and I'm back at a command prompt. I didn't have to do anything special to get it to work.
