I'm an Italian user of xububtu Edgy Eft, please forgive my English.
I'm having troubles with the Trash and Home icons in my Desktop, which appeared in a release candidate of xubuntu, but suddenly disappeared
What's the file and the configuration option I have to set to have them back?
Thanks a lot

Actually Xubuntu removed those icons from Edgy Eft. They are in Xfce, but not in Xubuntu.
There has been a lot of discussions including soem workarounds in the xubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com
email list.
You should find more from Xubuntu, this is not really related to Xfce.

Thanks, I asked help in the Italian forum, but without success, so I thought I could find a solution at the source. Actually, I have, thank to you

You can create launcher on the desktop and the content of the ~/Desktop folder is shown on the desktop.

Hi Nick and thanks for your help,
My goal is:
1- to remove the trash, home and file system icons
For this, i do this: Settings Manager > Desktop > Behavior > Desktop Icons > None
2- create my personal desktop icon (with the correct french name)
I put the DESKTOP files into /home/user/Desktop
So with this method (... Desktop Icons > None), my personal desktop icon are not on the Desktop, ???
If you are a good idea, please give me. Thank you.

Enable desktop icons and then add the lines below to the xfdesktop rc file:
[file-icons]
show-filesystem=false
show-home=false
show-trash=false
show-removable=false
Now the default icons are removed, but the content of the ~/Desktop folder is shown AFAIK....

Hi,
I tested that. My xfdesktoprc is:
[file-icons]
show-filesystem=false
show-home=false
show-trash=false
I put that here:
/home/me/.config/xfce4/desktop/xfdesktoprc
I reboot my computer so the icons are always present.
I put the xfdesktoprc here:
/etc/X11/xdg/xfce4/desktop/xfdesktoprc
And i reboot my computer. Same problem.
I use VectorLinux with xfce4. ???
I still seek ...
Thanks Nick.

What is the Xfce version you're running?

xfce-4.3.99.2-i586

MM IIRC this feature (the hidden option to disable the default icons) was added in 4.4.0, so maybe you can upgrade your Xfce desktop to 4.4.1 (which also fixes some important bugs).
