Hello all,
So I love xfce, always keep coming back to it on my desktop. So, I install xubuntu edgy on my machine, and when I log in, I get this heavily gnome-ified xfce that I hate to death. So, I install the 4.3.99r2 desktop, and when I get back to the desktop, it's still the same. So, I remove the .config files, remove xubuntu default setting, everything, but can't get the desktop that I so know and love. When I last used xubuntu on ubuntu (Hoary) , it was just the normal xfce desktop. Now, it looks like a weak gnome (tango icons, etc).
I want my real xfce desktop back!
For those wondering what I am bitching about, here is the good desktop:
...and here is the bad one:
Can someone please tell me how to get the standard xfce desktop back? I have even gone so far as to just do a server install (Ubuntu Edgy- Debian) and add the 4.3.99r2 install, but no joy. Help me please!
Thanks,
Joey French

I am guessing you mean the panel and applet positions.
Simple answer is to customise it.
Remove the panels completely and start from scratch. Once you have it set up, make a backup of your .config directory in case you re-install again.

Okay, so I see one thing after plumbing the depths of Xfce. I didn't have xffm installed, I had thunar. When I installed xffm, it pulled a whole bunch of icons, samba stuff, etc. into my setup, so it just "feels" more like the Xfce I know from a while back. And, rebuilding the panel took a bit, but hey, it is starting to come around. Kinda wish there was a file you could remove and set Xubuntu back to the Xfce default setup.
Thanks anyway,

Try deleting /etc/skel/.config/xfce4/ if you got it
