XFCE4 Pager problem

Hi, I'm running xfce4 version 4.3.99.1 on xubuntu 6.10. I would like to have a pager on my desktop, so I added the default pager to the panel. Unfortunately, it is very horizontally squished. I've experimented around, and even if the pager is on its own panel and has all the room in the world, it is still too thin. Here is a screenshot of it:

What is the large space at the left?  It may be a "separator".  If you remove that or change its properties by de-selecting "Expand", your pager will have more room.
