need "quick launch" or "recent programs"

Several months ago I was sold on switching from XP to Linux when I installed Ubuntu.  I experimented with both Gnome and KDE, but recently discovered XFCE -- and I think it's the best so far...  except KDE had a wonderful feature that I can't find in XFCE.  In KDE the applet is called "quick launch" -- this is exactly what I want for XFCE but can't find.  I tried using the XfApplet plugin, but because quick launch is for KDE it doesn't show in the list of applets.

Can someone help please?
