hi,
first of all, thanks for this software, my home workstation feels usable again
I got used to using alt-d for minimizing everything and showing the deskotp. I cannot figure out how to do this in xfce (fedora6, this morning I got the update to 4.4.0). What is the command behind the icon on the taskbar for doing this?
thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this is the best way, but you can minimize all windows with the combination:
Ctrl-Alt-D
If anyone has a two keystroke version, that would be even better.

yes, that works. How did you find it, by the way? Maybe then we can turn it to a 2 keys combo

I just saw it documented somewhere on a page of shortcuts, so I have no idea where to change the settings. Right now I'm just thankful that I can use the Win-Key to pull up the menu, because the less I use my mouse the happier I am.

You can find this setting in the window manager settings -> keyboard. There is an item in the list named "show desktop".

it is not there in my xfce
I only have 5 options:
xfce4-popup-menu
xfhlep4
xflock4
xfrun4
xkill
grepping for show or desktop in the $.config folder gives no significant options.

Not in the keyboard settings, but in the window manager settings (where you can change the window borders etc).
It will probably show up when you run xfce-settings-show xfwm4

fantastic, there it was. Thanks a lot!
