Unable to install -- missing URI-files?

Initially I was missing all URI-files so I installed the URI-package.

Now the installer tells me I have URI::Escape but not URI::file nor URI:URL despite the files file.pm and URL.pm being present in "/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/URI".
Why do I get this error?

I tried to strace the installer and go through the system calls to see where the installer actually looks for these files with no success. I have tried to copy the files file.pm and URL.pm to file.pl and URL.pl, I have tried moving all files in /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/URI to /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 and other locations, including to /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.4. The automated install-feature for the URI-files does not work at all.

I don't know how many hours I have spent trying to make this work now. Any help I can get would be great.

Where does the installer want these files to be?

I install perl-uri-1.35 this file.
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/URI

After I installed perl 5.8.7 the automatic installation for the missing files suddenly worked and I managed to install it.
