Transparency with the panels..

I noticed that if you set the panel with transparency  that not only does it make the background transparent, but makes everything else transparent also.. Is there anyway to make the background only transparent and not everything else?

Also, with the panel if you use a different panel background with your GTK theme, how can you make some of the system tray apps and the clock to blend into the panel like everything elese? See the photo to see what I mean..

As you can see, they have a black background instead of just blending into the panel like the launchers and everything else..

Thanks for any help or information you can offer!

Re: Transparency with the panels..

Checkout this patch. But it still experimental and plugins with their own window won't honor the argb window.

Re: Transparency with the panels..

Thank you for this patch !  smile

Only one problem, since I use xfce4-panel with this patch  it is not possible any more to use the xfce4-weather-plugin.
The message which I received:

The program 'xfce4-weather-plugin' receive an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'
Detail: serial 6894 error_code 8 request_code 70 minor_code 0)

But it is only a very small nuisance !

@pieman
I have put the patch in the sources folder, and I use this command(i'm on Debian testing):

patch -p0 < panel-cairo-20070125.patch

Sorry for my bad english

Re: Transparency with the panels..

FYI: There is a free/slice problem in libxfce4util, this could cause the crash in the weather plugin (and also in other Xfce components). This memory problem can crash some programs and some work without problems... so it's very annoying.

Re: Transparency with the panels..

Hi and thanks  Nick

Are you sure ? Because I think that I do not need  this fix with libxfce4util 4.4.0
I installed xfce 4.4.0 from the sources here, and this fix seems already integrated into libxfce4util 4.4.0

Re: Transparency with the panels..

This fix will be in 4.4.1, so I don't you have it already.

Re: Transparency with the panels..

Of course, why to ship Xfce with a memory problem in the most frequently used library  :?

Re: Transparency with the panels..

Sorry for being so dumb. I really like the transpparent panels I have seen in the screen shots.
How do you use that patch to the panel. It's embarrassing, my knowledge is just point and click and
starting to learn how to use the command line. Please kindly explain and thank you very much in advance

Edit:

My apology, I posted without knowing that there was a similar topic in the screen shot section of this  forum and found the answer. Please feel free to delete this post.

Thanks,
su_xfce
