Accessibility - single click for desktop icons?

Hi, I've built a machine for my elderly and extremely computer illiterate folks and double click confuses them.  I have setup thunar for single click but I need to match that with single click for desktop icons.  Can anybody help?

I'm using xfce4 that shipped with xubuntu 6.06.

It can't be done in the current version. You could maybe use some other desktop manager than xfdesktop instead.
