How do you add terminal to dock?

Sorry, complete linux noob here.  I just want to add a terminal icon next to the firefox icon but I don't know the command for it.

Is there any easy way to find the commands for any of the applications?

Are you using Xfce 4.4? Anyway, if you do, right click the panel > Add new item > Drag a launcher to the panel > Close dialog > Right click new launcher > Properties > Start the xfce4-appfinder > Drag the app to the launcher dialog and voila.
