Do you have the development files for ALSA installed? Pkgconfig is looking for a file named alsa.pc. It should be in /usr/lib<qual>/pkgconfig unless you installed it some place weird like /usr/share/alsa.
According to the Ubuntu on-line package database, the alsa.pc file is provided by the libasound2-dev package.
