Is this possible? Any xfce feature/applet etc that will randomly choose a different wallpaper from my wallpaper collection, at each log on?

You could do this with a small script. Probably doesn't even warrant an applet.
Oops, sorry.
Simon. (^_^)
TIP: Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.

What are you sorry for? :?
Re the script - would you mind giving me some idea of how to do this? I've done VERY basic batch files in Windows but haven't done any in Linux as yet.

And will that automatically choose the next image in the list at each login or what?

I have for years used a script (that re-scanned a set of directories each time and build a Wallpaperlist, which xfdesktop then picked a random picture from; it is needed to rescan as you sometimes remove pictures). Can post it here if wanted. In the end I found it lacking and switched to an other old tool: chbg. This also has transition effects.
Both this approach and the wallpaperlist suffer from one minor issue: you cannot locate the current picture in your collection.
