problem with jpg, jpeg images

hi all
I'm new in xfce, I like it very much , but I still have 1 problem,
when I want to display image with .jpg or .jpeg format, it's not possible, it's also not possible to set it as desktop background,
the .png format works ok
can u help me? what can be a solution?

You probably need libjpeg and gtk compiled against this.

I'm running gentoo -> I have recomppiled my apps with jpeg and jpeg2k use flags,
applications like gimp can now work with these pictures but I can't set it as desktop background
