Dear all,
I have some questions regarding mail notification and some menus in the the XFCE desktop
When I set up the mail notification icon on the panel, it does not notify me at all for new e-mails, what could be the problem? I checked that my e-mail settings and related are correct.
When I log into my XFCE desktop, from time to time, the XFCE desktop menu dissapears strangely, so does the cpu monitor, I have to add them each time as they dissapear.
I use XFCE on debian etch.
With best regards,
utab

Check if you have the packages 'notification-daemon' and 'python-notify' installed by any chance.
If so, view and run some notification sample scripts located under:
/usr/share/doc/python-notify/examples/
You can copy any of those sample scripts to your own home directory and modify them to your taste.
Now right-click your XFCE Mail Watcher panel applet to bring up 'Properties' and configure it to run any of your own notification scripts when new mail arrives.

Very interesting. Mail watcher is working great for me but I want to hear a notification sound when new email arrives. I checked the python scripts mentioned above and nothing plays a sound. Any tips?

You can add something like:
play ~/mailsong.wav
to action, that should be done when mail arrives.
