Can't compile from source on Fedora 8

Evening Folks.

This is my first post of probably many more on Xfce forums. Before I can embark on the Xfce journey I need to get it installed. I have Fedora 8 x64 and I know there is a precompiled package in the repositories but every time I install Xfce there are package management and sound problems.

So instead of the repo package I thought I would compile from source. The instructions on the Xfce say to unpack the tarball and execute:

./configure && make && make install

This results in the following response:

./configure: No such file or directory

I can't find anyone on the net with the same problem. I know I can't see any configure file or makefile in the unpacked tarball, so what do I do to get this thing installed form source in F8? Here is a copy from ls in the src directory:

Hope someone can help with this. Please note, with the repo problems I've had compiling from source is my safest option at the moment.

Have you unpacked also the applications packages? (ie: all tar.bz2 packages in the src dir)
