Xfce Desktop and Thumar do not automatically refresh

Is there a dependency that I am missing to get XFCE and Thumar to automatically refresh their contents?  RIght now if I move something to the desktop in say firefox it does not get loaded on the desktop without a refresh

You need to have the fam or gamin daemon running.
