Problems with ALSA on UBUNTU 7.10

Problems with ALSA on the UBUNTU 7.10:
During installation Xfce4-4.4.2 I am receiving an error:

checking what sound system to use... alsa
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for pkg-config >= 0.9.0... 0.22
checking for alsa >= 0.9.0... not found

*** Please install alsa (atleast version 0.9.0) or adjust

if I am running command from a terminal: sudo apt-get install alsa
The answer is:

Note, selecting alsa-base instead of alsa
alsa-base is already the newest version.

How to correct this and properly install xfce?

I think you need to install the alsa development library libasound2-dev
