Searching in XFCE

Hi,

I am new to XFCE and this almost seems too silly to ask, but how do I search for files in XFCE? I am not referring to the quick find implemented in Thunar which only looks in the folder I am browsing at the moment, but how do I search for files on my whole system?

Thanks,

Re: Searching in XFCE

I use find via console.  Sorry, it's not GUI - maybe someone else knows of one.  On a console, do

man find

to get more information.

Re: Searching in XFCE

Hello.

You can also use locate. To search files which contain foo in their names, just type

locate foo

For a gui app, try catfish. It is a frontend to find, locate and other search tools.

Regards, Martin.

Re: Searching in XFCE

Catfish is a good choice - it is possible to integrate it in Thunar. A good article can be found at http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Catfish - you can translate it via google - translated version. Also read how to use Catfish in Thunar. smile
