I just reinstalled a box w/ ubuntu/xubuntu. Gnome has sounds but Xfce doesn't. I assume the problem is w/ pulse audio. How do I switch between alsa and pulse audio in xfce?
Or is there something else I should check?
Thx,
Dan

You don't
Just add /usr/bin/pulseaudio to the startup applications.

PS:
On low end machinery I found pulseaudio with Xfce to be somewhat overweight.
I prefer enabling ALSA using the gstreamer configuration tools on gnome, and not using it at all.

It already is.
To be honest I don't care if it's pulse audio or alsa...just one that works in xubuntu. The funny part is this is an reinstall and sound worked fine in 8.04 xubuntu before the reinstall. Now, it only works w/ gnome.
Any other suggestions?

Ok...here's some more info:
1) Works with Ubuntu 8.10 RC in Xfce
2) Does not work with Ubuntu 8.10 RC in Xfce when using nvidia restricted drivers.
Anyone have a logical reason for this?

Bump.
Anyone? Why would the nvidia driver affect pulseaudio?
