Thunar-volman not mounting USB drive if it's inserted before the computer boots

Hey, I'm trying to use Thunar as a volume manager for my Openbox-based desktop. I'm running a (very stripped-down) Ubuntu, so I have hal and dbus working fine, and I have "thunar --daemon" in my openbox autostart script.

If I insert a USB drive, thunar automatically mounts and opens it. That works great. But if I have a USB drive already inserted before I start up my computer, Thunar won't automatically mount it. Any way to fix this? I usually have an SD card inserted into this laptop, so this is a real pain.

You might want to dig into the udev documentation - you can probably
fake a hotplug event with a command from there.

There's no way to have Thunar just look for and mount removable devices when it starts?
