Unresponsive panel menus

Just bought an acer one and was messing around in the settings and accidentally deleted my panel. When I use
.....
xfce4-panel -a
....

in the terminal to set up a new panel the "Add Items to the Panel" window opens but is pretty much empty. (it does have some blank fields but no text and no buttons)

This is the first time I have ever used any form of Linux so I am pretty clueless. I have restarted the computer a couple of times hoping for a miracle but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Unresponsive panel menus

Your probably getting this because you don't have a panel. Run "xfdesktop --menu" select settings and then panel manager. Start your panel and you may find it will revert back to what it was.
