suspend / hibernate problem. HAL

Hi all

I have the XFCE 4.6 installed in my Slackware, but i have a problem when I want to suspendo or hibernate. I have this error:

Suspend and Hibernate are only supported through HAL, which is unavailable

What is HAL, and how can get it or make it active? :?
