Hi all!
I just installed compiz emerald here on my system, that is Fedora 11 x86_64 using xfce4.6.
To be able use the emerald theme, I added in my bashrc the line "emerald --replace" - so it loads the theme before i log in (necessary or else I will have no borders).
The problem is that slows down my startup quite a lot, I'm just wondering if is that normal?
Does anyone else here have emerald installed and experiences a slow startup?
It feels like the system is already "ready" but it's waiting for something (emerald i guess, since when it's ready it has no borders).
Then all of sudden the hard disk works a lot and emerald gets loaded and then i can start using it.
To avoid this i enabled the splash screen, so when I'm in it's all 100%.
If anybody got a similar issue or any idea please let me know!

I have compiz+emerald and the startup time is quite.. normal, but slower of course than if I wasn't using compiz+emerald. It loads xfwm first, but then gets replaced. I do it with fusion-icon added as a startup application.
I posted a problem on slow sartup on this forum, perhaps it can help you.
