Printing Problems

I've installed cups and can print anything from firefox and thunderbird.  I cannot print from abiword or mousepad.  If I select any print selection in abiword, the program immediately closes without printing.  If I select print from mousepad, nothing happens.

I tried rebooting, relogging but nothing changes.

Weird, no?

Re: Printing Problems

Not quite sure but this looks like a problem with the Gnome (GTK) applications -- firefox/thunderbird are platform independant. Can you check whether your logs provide any clues (/var/log/cups/*)?

Re: Printing Problems

The only entry of interest is

Unable to set ACLs on root certificate "/var/run/cups/certs/0" - Operation not supported"

I looked this string up.  Seems to be a common error across all distros but no definitive solution found anywhere either.  I checked all other logs but nothing appears amiss.

I installed gEdit.  It prints as expected.  As this is a gnome product I checked whatever gnome objects I could find and found nothing unusual.

I booted abiword in a terminal as myself and root.  In both instances when I hit the print preview button I got this message:

** (abiword:2032): WARNING **: IPP request failed with status 1030
Aborted

Looked this one up and found nothing usefull.  Now, I don't know if this is an application (abiwork, mousepad) problem, a DE (xfce4) problem, or an OS (Arch) problem.  This is beginning to move past the annoying stage.
