[Thunar] Creating a file with the name of a directory overwrites the directory

I just lost an entire directory (and all its subdirectories) because I saved a file with an identical name as the directory which ended up overwriting the entire directory. My fault, I know, as I did confirm to overwrite it, but I did not think files could overwrite directories, and don't remember having this problem in earlier versions of Thunar. Is this a bug, or a feature?

I'm running Thunar 1.0.2.

I looked for answers online and on this forum, but did not find anything (partly because I did not quite know what to search for). If this has been discussed ad nauseam, please point me in the right direction
